Event Description:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes many different methods. Signing does not need any extra materials or equipment and is called an unaided system. Materials and equipment that are provided to the user are called aided systems.  This presentation will include a description of the various unaided and aided AAC systems that are most commonly used with people on the autism spectrum.  A feature analysis of different AAC systems will be provided.

Target Audience:  parents, educators, speech therapists, behavior analysts

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

(1) define aided and unaided AAC systems
(2) identify different types of AAC systems
(3) describe various characteristics that make up different AAC systems.
