Event Description:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is the term used to describe ways of helping people who find it hard to communicate by speech or writing. This presentation will provide an introduction to AAC for persons with autism and related disabilities including what it is, what the roles and responsibilities are for those involved with children and adults who use AAC and what resources are available for obtaining an AAC assessment and acquiring AAC equipment.

Target Audience:  parents, educators, speech therapists, behavior analysts

Presentation Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

(1) describe what augmentative alternative communication is and provide examples
(2) describe who should be involved in AAC assessment and intervention
(3) describe the basic principles and components of an AAC assessment
(4) describe what services are available in the community to provide AAC assessments and intervention.
