Managing the Cycle of Acting Out Behavior

Event Description:

This presentation will teach attendees a simple, effective model that will help them understand the standard cycle that tends to occur whenever people with autism and related disabilities display misbehavior.  By understanding this cycle, attendees will learn how to respond to a person with autism according to what stage they are at within the model. 

Target Audience:  parents, educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts

Presentation Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

(1)Explain each stage of acting out including calm, triggered, agitated, accelerating, and peaking.
(2)Describe appropriate and inappropriate responses to each stage of acting out
