An Overview of Applied Behavior Analysis

Event Description:

This presentation will introduce participants to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and to how ABA is used to help promote the growth and development of children with autism and related disabilities.  Participants will learn a bit about the history of ABA and the research base that supports the using ABA with persons with autism.  In addition, participants will learn the important features of a quality ABA program. 

Target Audience:  parents, educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists

Presentation Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

(1)Define ABA
(2)Define Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention for children with autism
(3)Describe some of the research that supports the use of ABA with children with autism
(4)List and describe the important features of an ABA intervention program for children with autism
(5)Describe what a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is, what a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA) is, and what role these professionals usually play in ABA programs for children with autism
(6)Describe some first steps towards setting up an ABA program for a child with autism
