The Speakers Series       

The Speakers Series belongs to FEAT of Washington's collection of service programs aimed at disseminating practical, topical, useful science-based information to the autism community of Washington.  Bringing together local, regional, and national experts from disciplines that include behavior analysis, education, speech-language pathology, counseling, the Speakers Series allows FEAT members to gain access to the information they need to support persons with autism and their families.

The Speakers Series also seeks to help support professionals who work with persons with autism and their families by offering events that qualify as continuing education experiences for educators, behavior analysts, and speech-language pathologists.

Registration

Space in all the events within the Speakers Series is limited to no more than 20 people to help ensure that participants enjoy a high amount of interaction with the speakers.  Because of this limited enrollment, interested participants should register as soon as possible for any event they would like to attend.

Registration Deadline


Registration for each Speakers Series event will close 1 week before the event is scheduled to occur. 


Fees

Each Speakers Series event costs $50.00 for professionals to attend and $35.00 for family members to attend. Each event typically lasts between 3 and 4 hours.

If you would like to receive continuing education units (CEU's) for an event within the Speakers Series, FEAT of Washington will charge a fee of $15.00 per CEU.or clock hour


Materials

Each participant will receive complete handouts for each event within the Speakers Series, except where copyright limitations prohibit FEAT from handing out such materials.

Howard Powers
FEAT of Washington is proud to host Seattle Special Education Attorney, Howard C. Powers on Saturday September 4th 8:30-12:30.  Mr. Powers has been engaged in the practice of law in Washington for 30 years.  He represents families and students to enforce their educational rights.  His practice emphasizes the rights of students to an appropriate education under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act and related laws. He has helped numerous families throughout Washington obtain appropriate programs from public schools and funding for private services and school placements as well as other education-related matters.

His talk will include information about legal rights and strategies to enforce them; the process of formulating evaluations and individualized education plans; negotiation with school districts to obtain the receipt of appropriate educational services, programs and placements; and litigating claims at all levels of the administrative and court systems.
