About Transitions for Teens

Transitions for Teens (TFT) is FEAT of Washington's flagship program that serves adolescents with autism and related disabilities.  TFT provides clients with high quality behavior analytic services by developing individual comprehensive programs that increase social competence and build skills necessary to access and navigate through their world, while also respecting their individual preferences and rights.

Goals and Intervention Areas within TFT

TFT seeks to increase participating teens' independence, self-determination, and quality of life by improving teens' skills in key areas necessary to achieve those outcomes:

  • Communication skills
  • Self-advocacy skills
  • Self-management skills
  • Navigation skills
  • Production skills
  • Safety skills
  • Social skills
  • Leisure skills
  • Hygiene skills
TFT Program Schedule, Calendar, and Costs

TFT runs Mondays through Thursdays from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, from September until June each year.  All of our participating teens attend their public middle and high schools during the day and then come to the TFT program in the afternoons.

TFT accepts funding both from indivdiual families and third party payers such as insurance companies and Washington's Division of Developmental Disabilities.  When families pay out of their own pockets for the TFT program, FEAT discounts the monthly tuition to $1,950.00 per month.  When families use third party payers to fund the TFT program, FEAT charges the full monthly tuition rate of $2,700.00 per month.

FEAT of Washington does accept funding through the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) for behavior management and respite care services offered within the TFT program, and many families use this DDD funding to help offset the out-of-pocket cost of the program.  TFT is also an approved program through Microsoft's ABA/Autism benefit.
TFT Enrollment Status and Admissions

Currently, TFT does have a very limited number of openings available in its program.  If you would like to enroll your teen within the program, please contact Rose Feddock, Program Director, and arrange to tour the program.

TFT Client Outcomes and Program-Related Presentations

TFT is a wonderfully unique program that greatly benefits the clients enrolled.  Below, please find links to presentations that the staff of TFT have delivered to various groups (such as FEAT of Washington's Board of Directors as well as attendees of local, regional, and national conferences) regarding the TFT program.

What TFT Parents and Teens are Saying:

“We wanted to let you know how very grateful we are for all everyone has done this past year and how very fortunate we feel to have had David be part of the TFT program . The ever-present caring, enthusiasm, attentiveness and plain hard work of all staff has been so very much appreciated. David has made great progress and it has been wonderful to watch him gain confidence and skills as he has blossomed into a more independent young adult. We thank you all for making such an impact on his life! “

"I am so thrilled that Adam is developing these wonderful leadership and negotiation skills.  At my father’s wedding last weekend many of my family members came to me raving about Adam’s improved self-regulation and social skills. It was very exciting!  I know it is all because he has been able to attend TFT.”

"The gains Keith has made this year have been  because of the teen program at FEAT.  The staff has worked tirelessly with all of the kids, pushing them to higher levels of functioning and be the best that they can be. ”
